Jonah’s Restaurant & Boutique Hotel Celebrates 96 Years of Excellence with Exclusive Australia Day Event
January 26, 2025 – Whale Beach, Sydney
Jonah’s Restaurant & Boutique Hotel marked an extraordinary milestone this Australia Day, celebrating its 96th birthday with an exclusive event attended by notable celebrities, esteemed guests, and long-time supporters. With the stunning 180-degree ocean views providing the perfect backdrop, the gathering was an unforgettable tribute to the restaurant’s long-standing reputation as an institution of Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
The prestigious guest list included icons Jack Thompson and Thomas Keneally, former Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove, actor Peter Phelps, many Olympians, business heavy weights, judges, restaurateurs, philanthropists, university chancellors and many locals who joined in commemorating the history and legacy of Jonah’s. This elegant gathering also featured a delectable spread of Australian favourites, including fresh seafood, tender lamb, and creative twists on iconic treats such as Jonah’s signature Chiko roll and a dessert version of the beloved Tim Tam.
Guests sipped from a carefully curated selection of wines from Jonah’s award-winning list, which earned recognition as the Best Wine List by the Glass 2024 by Australia’s Wine List of the Year, as well as the Best Hotel Wine List in the Region for 2024 and the Best Hotel Wine List in the World for 2022 by the World of Fine Wine. The prestigious accolades further solidified Jonah’s status as a premier dining destination.
A special toast to Australia was given by Australian legendary author Thomas Keneally AO. Thomas spoke of Australia heritage including the long history of the traditional owners of this land and how “Australia is the only sophisticated nation on earth that began its settler existence as a purpose designed penial colony” and has continued to thrive. He spoke of how we are now “all the one animal” and toasted to Australia and “the children of the convicts”.
Guests were also treated to a special performance by immortal actor Jack Thompson in honour of Australia day. Jack recited the famous Australia ballad by Banjo Pattison ‘Clancy of the Overflow’ and one of his favourite bush poems “Turbulence” by Murray Hartin stating, “the great ballads of Australia are obviously not dead!”.
Ashleigh Rubenach, emerging star Australian stage performer, delighted the guests with her amazing voice, singing the National Anthem and I Am Australia.
