Jonah’s Welcomes Olympic Athletes for a Special 25-Year Anniversary Celebration

This month, Jonah’s Restaurant and Boutique Hotel had the honour of hosting a truly historic and emotional event — the 25-year anniversary celebration of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Gathered on the clifftops of Whale Beach, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, 110 athletes who competed at the unforgettable Sydney Games came together to celebrate, reconnect, and reflect on the impact of those two weeks that captured the world’s attention.

Among the guests were some of Australia’s most iconic sporting heroes, their presence brought a sense of nostalgia and pride, as stories were shared of the Games that defined a generation.

An Afternoon of Memories
The afternoon was steeped in Olympic spirit, with a looping video playing throughout the venue, featuring highlights from the Games: the dazzling Opening and Closing Ceremonies, unforgettable medal moments, and unforgettable glimpses of teamwork and determination.

Music played an equally powerful role in bringing back memories. Songs synonymous with Sydney 2000 echoed through the event, including Marcia Hines’ inspiring anthem Rise, adopted as the Australian team song. In a special highlight, Marcia Hines herself attended the evening, adding her warmth and energy to the occasion.

No one was more pleased than the host, Peter Montgomery, who was a 4-time Olympian in Water Polo and Deputy General Manager of the Australian 2000 Olympic Team.

A Taste of Australia
True to Jonah’s reputation, guests enjoyed a menu that celebrated the very best of modern Australian cuisine. Fresh local seafood, seasonal produce, and thoughtfully curated dishes were paired with some of Australia’s most exceptional wines, highlighting the richness of our country’s culinary scene.

A Venue Fit for Champions
For Jonah’s, it was a privilege to host such a meaningful milestone. With panoramic ocean views, award-winning dining, and elegant boutique accommodation, Jonah’s was the perfect backdrop for an event that honoured Australia’s Olympic past while celebrating the enduring friendships and memories of the athletes who made it possible.

As the sun set over Whale Beach and the event came to a close, it was clear that the legacy of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games lives on—not only in the record books but in the hearts of those who competed and those who cheered them on.
